Despite multiple challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and tropical cyclones causing interruptions to health services and responses to malaria cases, the Malaria Free Vanuatu programme continued to make progress towards achieving the Ministry of Health’s malaria elimination goals. In 2023, a total of 61,286 long-lasting insecticide-treated nets were distributed across six provinces, while 70 percent of confirmed malaria cases received first-line antimalarial treatment at public sector health facilities.
