The joint publication “Global Perspectives on Triangular-Cooperation” by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was launched in Lisbon, Portugal on 12 October 2023.

The publication, a culmination of rigorous research and collaborative efforts, sheds light on the pivotal role of Triangular-Cooperation in fostering  sustainable development, enhancing resilience, and building capacities across developing countries.

"The Bank and OECD have longstanding experience in many areas including Triangular Cooperation and the publication is a result of this fruitful collaboration. At IsDB, we started Triangular Cooperation in 1983 and we believe in the power of this modality as a bridge to promote relationship and dialogue between the North and the South. In order to unleash the potential of Triangular Cooperation as well as South-South Cooperation, the Bank is advocating to put in place adequate national ecosystems (enabling environment) in the Global South" said Riad Ragueb, Director, Cooperation and Capacity Development, IsDB.

“The publication is a pioneering effort to bring light to how Triangular Cooperation is being deployed to achieve internationally agreed development goals. There is a diversity of stakeholders engaging in triangular partnerships, almost 200 countries and territories, more than 80 international and regional organizations, as well as non-state actors involved in numerous projects. Through this modality, partners can build trust that can transcend technical engagement and help underpin wider political dialogue” said Pilar Garrido, Director, Development Co-operation Directorate of the OECD.

The report showcases numerous case studies, highlighting the tangible impact and transformative change enabled through Triangular Cooperation. From building resilience for public health emergencies to enhancing technical expertise and facilitating knowledge exchange, the publication provides a comprehensive overview of the myriad ways in which Triangular Cooperation has been a catalyst for sustainable development and mutual growth.

The IsDB and OECD invite policymakers, development practitioners, and stakeholders across the globe to delve into this publication while drawing insights to advance the implementation of the agenda of sustainable development.
