UNDP is committed to integrating nature and biodiversity into the broader goals of its Strategic Plan and corporate Moonshots. Only nature-based human development, with a systematic, inclusive, and rights-based approach to nature-based solutions, can catalyze economic transformation through a just transition needed to achieve the SDGs. In 2023, UNDP launched its Nature Pledge, which leverages UNDP’s ability to connect the dots and ensure synergies between nature and development.
The Pledge is our commitment to upscale support to over 140 countries to reach their ambitious targets and goals under the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Nature Pledge focuses on three transformational system shifts: a Value Shift, an Economic and Finance Shift, and a Policy and Practice Shift. These shifts are essential to halt biodiversity loss and secure humanity's planetary safety net.
Now that the Pledge is out, it is time to translate it into action on the ground through a one-UNDP approach. In this regard, the Nature Hub and the Environment CoP, in collaboration with several knowledge networks, co-created the Nature Dialogues as part of the Nature Pledge Activation Plan.
The dialogues are a platform to discuss practical/explicit entry points to place nature at the heart of our efforts to advance sustainable development, driven by a bottom-up collective intelligence approach.
